Problems replying to emails after user and mailbox moved cross forest

We have been involved in a merger and need to merge two domains into one. All is going well except we have one recurring problems when we perform a cross forest mailbox move. Everything moves well. except that when the moved user replies to an existing email, it immediately comes back as non deliverable " IMCEAEX-_O=COMPANYNAME_OU=First+20Administrative+20Group_cn=Recipients_cn=USER@COMPANY.ORG

Any ideas on how to get around this

This is because for all purposes the user is now a different user.
when you hit reply and then click TO: and select the user again it will reply to the old messages.
