I have a Dell Optiplex 320 and audio is not working ... I ran a test using Dell utility cd and find the audio device is working fine. When I try install the driver but it's not working.
I look under Device Manager and there is issue with PCI device (not sure what is this and I think it's chipset). So I install chipset driver but still not working.

any help would be appreciated

thanks,

This is not the chipset driver but a standalone audio driver.

From Dell website it appears your sound card is Analog Devices.

Was it working before? Did you reinstall windows? If so, which version, service pack?
What happened exactly?

If you did reinstall windows check also http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111

Hi Flowster,

The audio was working before ... then I reinstall OS and reinstall audio driver from Dell  but it's not working.
I think I need to apply the hotfix from Microsoft?

Commented:
Yes if you reinstalled you might have to install the hotfix, unless you are on Service pack 3 then you should not have to... are you?

What is coming up in your device manager?  HD audio something?

I hate to ask this question, but it answers this problem so many times - are you sure the speakers are plugged into the correct jack (the light green one, usually the middle of three)?

Commented:
The device need to be installed properly only than you will be able to get it to behave correctly.

Try removing  the device in the Device manager and restart the PC.
The necessary dives should install automatically.
If not install the drivers again.
