JVM: how to enable 64-bit on 64-bit machine

andy7789 used Ask the Experts™
Hi X-perts,

I have win 7 with 64-bit and wanted to utilize extra JVM heap size options, ex Xmx3g.

1) Should I install a special 64-bit JVM? I cannot find any in Java downloads.

2) Should I explicitly add some options for 64-bit run-time?

My Java control panel shows built 1.6.0).

I tried to add -Xmx3g, but it makes no difference and some Java applications show "out of memory".

Please, advise
