Missing Bluetooth Drivers for Compaq Presario V6500

I've just finished removing a nasty concoction of rootkits and spyware from a friend's Compaq Presario V6500 running Vista SP1 - now I notice that there are missing drivers under 'Other Devices' for 'Bluetooth Hands Free Audio" and "Bluetooth Stereo Audio".

Drivermax finds nothing and I can't see them on the website.

Windows update doesn't find them.

Ideas please.

Try this:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-51857-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2093&product=3550002

Compaq drivers are on HP's website http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html
all you have to do is put the model no. in and it will bring up a list of all matching models, select yours and the link above is the Bluetooth software for the v6500

Thanks, I found that but it wouldn't install - says uninstall existing bluetooth software first - the only bluetooth software installed is Widdcomm bluetooth software -

I'm confused - are these two pieces of software interchangeable ?

Yes, Widdcomm bluetooth software is pre-installed for HP Compaq laptop and its main use is to act as a control centre for bluetooth device attaching to the laptop.
Ok, so when the Widdcomm software is installed I have two 'Other Devices' with no drivers.

If I uninstall Widdcomm and install the HP drivers for the specific model it says 'no bluetooth device found'.

What is going on??
Have you tried to restart Vista?
Yes.

Ok, I uninstalled Widdcomm completely and restarted .

In Device Manager all is well - there are no missing drivers.

I ran Drivermax - no missing drivers or unidentified hardware.

If I try and install the HP Bluetooth software it says 'No bluetooth devoce found' and cancels.

It would appear there is no Bluetooth device installed on this model?

Check the label attached to the bottom of HP laptop to see what is the exact model name and the licence COA to see the version of Vista and will try to find a link for the drive for you afterwards.
Ok, thank you, see attached photo of label.

According to the manual from HP, it says:-

"Hardware Enabling

Before beginning the configuration of your Bluetooth software
and drivers, verify that the wireless LED on the computer is
illuminated. Refer to your notebook computer documentation for
the location of the LED.

If the LED is not illuminated:

For notebooks, press the Wireless on/off button to turn on the
Bluetooth device. Refer to your notebook documentation for
the location of the wireless on/off button.

Please have a look of URL below for the Wireless switch and light.

Hmm, thanks but the wireless is on, I'm connected to the router wirelessly and there doesn't appear to be a seperate bluetooth switch or indicator light (as there is on my Dell).

There is no Software Installation program installed, nor is it on the recovery partition, nor is there a bluetooth driver or software on the recovery partition.
Besides, download and install HP Wireless Assistant from URL1 below if you have not yet download it

URL1:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-74972-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3562100&os=2093&lang=en

Then, restart Vista and follow the guide in URL2 below for setup of bluetooth

URL2: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01065493#DeviceEnabled
Besides, what is the device name for your Wireless LAN in Device Manager?
The wireless light shall be in blue colour if there is bluetooth for your laptop.
The Broadcom Wireless adaptor documentation shows an a/b/g/draft n device with or without bluetooth - the one on this laptop is an older a/b/g - I think the documentation is just wrong for this model.
