SSL and credit card details over the net

Within a new website my client wants me take credit card information from visitors when they purchase a product.

I'm new to SSL as the other times I've developed ecommerce sites I've always passed the details to a payment provider. This time however, my client wants me to take them on his site.

I'm guessing now, but surely its not just a case of buying an RC4 128 bit SSL and then pointing the payment pages to https is it ?

FYI once the details have been taken they are then sent via a web service to my clients database which he runs.

Be aware that the credit card regulations state that you must not store the CCV code. You must use this only for the payment. If you aren't charging the card online at point of purchase, this gives you a catch-22.
