When I try and add a host which is on ESX 3i 3.5.0 to VCenter I get the message
"VI3 hosts cannot be added if vCener is licensed but License Server is not configured. Configure License Server and try again."

Firstly I am not sure how to do that, or if it will work.
Secondly, I have 2 VI3 hosts I want to add to the V4 vCenter, but they are both old HP ML350 G3's which won't support v4 but I'm still hopping to be able to use them for a while including vMotion at some point - is it ok to mix?

You will need to install License Server from the VI3 installation.  In vCenter 4 there is a tab to put in the ip address of the VI3 license server.  You can install on the same machine as vCenter 4 but you'll need VI3 license file to get this done.  It is ok to mix, vCenter will work with both
