BigBlueMan used Ask the Experts™
I am looking at some advice on e-mail archiving.  I am curretly testing out a Barracuda E-mail Archiver, which is pretty cool but expensive, can anyone recomend any alternatives?
We don't want people archiving to PST's locally across the company or to the server.

You can use GFi which then makes the archive available to the user: http://www.gfi.com/mailarchiver/

what version of Exchange are you using? Any plans to upgrade to 2010? It has a built In archive feature

I have experience with two products. In our corporate office we are running EMC emailxtender/Sourceone. This is an enterprise class system and has worked out extremeley well for us. Completely scalable and searchable. We currently have about 5tb of email archived using this product and the search times are amazingly fast. Allows archived messages to be accessed through outlook and owa.

GFI mail archiver a company we purchased was running this. Pretty good program doesnt have all the bells and whistles of Emailxtender/Sourceone but it also doesnt cost nearly as much. This is probably better suited for a medium to large sized business.

Take a look at Symantec Enterprise Vault.  It will archive, compress, single instance, perform integrated PST migration to the archives.  Very solid product and will also do E-Disocvery, File System Archiving, Sharepoint, etc..
GFI MailArchiver.  You can grant user access to their own archive and access to other users if necessary.  All activity on the archived messaged can be logged to SQL database and shows as an audit trail in the message.  There is a web interface and an interface that plugs into Outlook.

It uses your own hardware. You can install it on the Exchange server along with the other
GFI components.  Licensing is reasonable: less than $30/box to buy less than $10 to renew every year.  Cheaper if you get your licensing through CDW or another authorized reseller.
