SQL 2005 Express install on Server 2008

I am trying to backup a sql server v 2008 using genie backup. They aren't currently supporting sql 2008. Support told me to install sql 2005 and then the backup will see the 2008 instances. I cannot find anywhere that Microsoft sql 2005 is supported on a 2008 server.

Can you provide more information?  Is all of this - the SQL Server 2008 install and Genie Backup - on one server?  Which OS(es) are involved?

If you're concerned about SQL 2005 running on Windows Server 2008, it appears to be supported - see http://www.microsoft.com/Sqlserver/2005/en/us/system-requirements.aspx#ws

Yes, you can see your 2008 SQL instances on a 2005 SSMS

dcsln:
SQL 2008 is installed on the server. The server is running Windows 2008 Standard. Genie backup is not seeing the sql instances. Tech support said I need to install SQL 2005. I am hoping I can just install the 2005 version and not worry about affecting the existing database application. From what the article points to it suggests it is supported. When you go to download sql 2005 it does not list 2008 server as a supported os.

Thanks for the update.  You can run SQL 2005 and 2008 on the same box, but I would be pretty cautious about adding the older product after the newer version is installed, at least on a production system.  Do you have SQL Server 2005 - at least the Client components - installed on the Genie Backup server?  If that works, it seems like a safer (and less cluttered) route to connecting to the SQL 2008 database.
I have no install of sql 2005 on the box. How do I get the client components?
