Windows 2003 server crashed about 2 weeks ago.  Server back up and all issues that caused the crash have been resolved.  Experiencing MOSS 2007 issues since the crash.
Application Log is filling up with Event ID errors: 6398 & 6481.

Have found the the "Office Sharepoint Server Search" service not stated.  Encounter the following error when I try to start service:

An unhandled exception occurred in the user interface.Exception Information: Unable to cast COM object of type 'Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.MSSITLB.CGatheringManagerClass' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.MSSITLB.IGatherManagerAdmin3'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{DDC316A7-64CA-40A9-9C9E-3CDF00A6CC1E}' failed due to the following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE)).

Have tried rerunning the Configuration Wizard but that didn't fix the problem

Try adding the search service account to the local security group: WSS_WPG

Yes, everything else is working.
This server is a DC & the service account is a member of the Domain Admins group.

Walk me through the steps you used to restore the installation of Sharepoint.  Something must have been missed.
Commented:
Fixed the above Event ID errors by installing WSS v3.0 SP2 & MOSS 2007 SP2
Am now getting search errors, but will open another question for this error
