Excel 2010 Not Responding

BW999 used Ask the Experts™
Excel 2010 32 bit hangs up.  Runnin Windows 7- 64 bit.   Running Macro for 2-3 minutes.  It has been thoroughly debugged on Office 2003.   Does not respond to Ctrl-Break or Esc, which would normally stop VBA execution.  The calculations are repetitive (do loop), and the hangup occurs after a few iterations, even though the same subroutines are being called.

HP Pavillion machine.  Could anti-virus be the culprit?  Norton Internet Security.

Have you tried stepping theough the code with the debugger? It might be helpful to find out if the halt is happening on a particular line of code each time. If we're talking more than a couple of dozen keystrokes, try inserting a diagnostoc msgbox at the start or end of each loop iteration - bung in a loop counter and output its value in the msgbox each time around the loop. At least you'll find out how many loops it gets through before hanging.

As far as Norton causing the problem, if you turn it off, does the macro run OK?

What was it that worked on this? Disabling Norton or doing the Debug steps?

I have the same issue for a PC with Excel 2010. As soon as there is any macro involved it tends to hang on File/Save As or File/Open

It is still an issue but is not particularly associated with File/Save or File/Open.  I have retreated to using Excel 2003, which runs faster and does not hang up.  I am going to try the 64-bit version of Excel 2010...

64bit Office is aweful (if you use Outlook). It still has issues that haven't been resolved fyi.

I fixed my problem by recreating the users profile. The user profile of the user was causing this to happen. Before this I tried to resetting the office settings (through registry), reinstalling, etc nothing worked.. besides redoing the users local profile...

If you can.. try to logon as a different user on your PC and see if the issue remains..
