How to FTP with MAC OS X Snow Leopard

I have a MAC with OS X, Snow Leopard. I'm new to MACs. I'm used to being able to do FTP with Windows Explorer quick simply. With the MAC, it seems I can only read, and not write. Is this true or am I doing something wrong?

Then I downloaded a program called ClassicFTP. I am able to connect to the FTP server. However, the program seems to go unresponsive after a short while and I keep having to reboot.

Maybe there is something that I am completely missing.

Transmit is an excellent, east to use ftp program with a great GUI.

You can do ftp in the finder command-K and type in ftp:// followed by the ftp server name or address.

THanks. I'll check out Transmit. In the meantime, when I open FTP in Finder, it seems I can only read, and not write. Is that correct? Or am I doing something wrong?

That relates to your privileges on the ftp server -- are you prompted for a name and password?

Yes, it asks for the user name and password.

This is what I do:

1) In Safari, enter the address, ie. ftp://website.com
2) The site opens up in Finder under "Shared". It must have saved my username and password from last time, because this time it didn't ask for it.
3) I can open a file, say in Dreamweaver, but that's it. I cannot copy the file back to the server. (Note on a PC, I can indeed do this, using the same credentials.)

Both of those give me "an unexpected error has ocurred" Nevertheless, I've downloaded Transmit and it seems to be working nicely. So Thanks, and I'll close the problem.
