Microsoft SCOM agent install on Dell T710
Hi
We have deployed a new Dell T710 with server 2008 R2 x64 on our network and confirmed from Dell that the DMC 1.0.2 shipped with server is not support 2008 yet. We will install the Microsoft SCOM agent to the server.
My question is: what is the difference between the DMC and Microsoft SCOM on Dell?
Will the SCOM agent bring specific monitoring function to the server if the target server is Dell?
Thank you.

Hi NJComputerNetworks,
Thank you for your reply.
We have installed the Dell Server Management Pack, just wonder if you know if we can change the Dell Server settings (e.g. fans speed, RAID settings) via Microsoft SCOM directly?
Many thanks!

I'm not aware of any way to do this in SCOM... I think you would leverage DMC for this.
For example, in the environment I work in, we use HP OpenView and MOM to "monitor" our servers. However, when we need to look at detailed information or make changes to the server, we then have to rely on our Dell management console.

We are expecting a Dell representive coming on site to clarify / demo what we have been told. Will post update here later. Thanks.

However, SCOM is used in larger environments that want to manage Dell and other hardware in one spot.
Anyway, to get the Dell specific information into SCOM, you need to load a management agent for Dell into SCOM: http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R237719&formatcnt=1&libid=0&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&fileid=342171
