I have just accidentally formatted a drive full of data which I have not backed up, I am now in store for a very long night I guess.

It is on a SAN drive on VMware. I formatted a drive in a VM windows 2003 server by accident and have lost it all with no backup - MASSIVE problem.

Is there any way of recovering it?

Try to scan the drive with GetDataBack by www.runtime.org or Recuva www.recuva.com
The drive should be seen as local HDD by Windows so these tools could scan it.

And yes, do not install or load anything on that data. Format does not delete data so you have still chances to recover everything.

Assuming it's just a 'drive' in a virtual machine and all you did was format it using Windows, you could then use a disk recovery product to recover the data (just don't allow anything to get written to the drive).

Download the trial version install it on a drive besides your formatted drive and see if it sees your data. If it does, buy the software and recover all your data. It may not be as bad as you think assuming you have done nothing else to the drive.

Thanks, I'm just doing as noxcho suggested and using getdataback, it says its going to take 2 hours to just san the 200gb drive but so long as it gets data back I'd be happy not sleeping all night just so I dont have to hang myself..... Feeling Really Ill and grateful for your support. Andrew.
