We are planning a low budget upgrade to WSS3.0 from SP2003 and WSS2.0  What additional  licensing is required.  We have 2003 Server ent licensing and all CALs for server 2003.

Also.. do we need extra CALs if we are using SQL 2005?

a) standard licensing for Windows 2003. Depending on the kind of Windows
2003 license you have you may or may not need Windows 2003 CALs as well.

b) If running (full) SQL Server rather than the built-in "Windows Internal
Database" (=Basic Installation) you need a SQL Server license. Depending on
the kind of SQL Server license you have you may or may not need SQL Server
CALs as well.

c) If connected to the Internet you need a *Server* Internet Connector
license (the official name may be something else) at ca $2000 as well.

WSS 3.0 itself is free and does not require CALs.
