I've owned the Smartdisk Crossfire External HD for a couple of years now. I have all my music and family photos backed up on it. I regularly play my music from there using my IPOD. Unfortunately, a couple days I was listening to some music from the External HD, where I had to move the desk a bit. However, whilst moving the desk I accidentally pulled the power cord from the back of the External HD. On discovery of this, I replugged the power cord back in the rear. Now I cannot see the External HD (G: Drive ) on My Computer. I've looked at the USB External drive on Device manager, it now has a message saying that "Error trying to start Device (Error Code 10)". I've tried updating driver...the device driver is up to date. Rebooted PC many times trying different USB ports other than the original USB the external drive was connected to. I've even tried connecting the External drive to another laptop, and still the same problem, the laptop cannot see External HD connected. A bit frustrating since I really can't afford to lose all those family photos.

You can try to open the enclosure and connect the drive directly to PC using appropriate connector. This will give you are clue if your drive is ok or the damage was done to enclosure only.

I opened the enclosure, but the problem exists. Is there a way to send it someone else who are more skilled at recovering data from External drives such as mine?

So you did connect the drive directly to PC? What is the interface of the HDD?
You can use professional data recovery service. Look in internet if any exists in your local city\region.
Some say www.gillware.com is good.
Ontrack is good but these services are expensive.
