Computer Becomes Unresponsive Overnight

I am configuring a new computer. I did not shut it down the last two nights, and each morning when I came back in the computer was unresponsive. I could move the mouse, but I could not click on anything or launch the Start Menu, and Ctrl-Alt-Del had no effect. I ran a full disk check (automatically fix file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors) yesterday. This took several hours and I did not see the results. Where should I start with this? Thank You.

Check what application or software you have introduced to the system lately, it might be the cause.

I had a similar problem lately, when I discovered that Symantec SEP client was what caused this.

I have installed probably two dozen programs. No Symantec anything. This feels like a hardware issue to me.

may be it's heating up?  install speedfan, and monitor the temps : http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

I think this had something to do with the hard drives shutting down after a period of time. I changed the hard drive shutdown to Never and that seemed to fix it. Thanks to all for the input.
