You do not need any driver. Take out the drive, purchase same interface drive SATA or IDE and put new drive instead of failed one.
Then install Windows on it.
What is the current size of the failed drive?

thank you very much noxcho.
the failed hd is a sata 80 gb and it was installled windows vista home basics.
A friend wants to replace his current hd 80 gb sata with windows xp installed and perfectly conditions for another hd, so he will gift me his sata hd.
this is why I had concerns.
First take out the HDD and see if yours is IDE or SATA.
You will see that according to these pictures:
This is IDE: https://www.pacificgeek.com/productimages/xl/WD1200BEVE-2.jpg see the pins
And this one is SATA: http://techreport.com/r.x/mobile-hdds/plugs.jpg
