How to Migrate Active Directory from existing 2003 domain to a new fresh 2008 R2 Domain?

I have existing Domain which is 2xxxxx.com based on windows 2003 R2 im building a new domain xxxxx.local which will be based on windows 2008 R2 i tried ADMT 3.1 but it won't installed on my new server giving this message of ( it has to be installed on windows 2008 server!) is there any other way to migrate my active directory or must i install 2008 , make the migration then upgrade the servers?

You are right,  ADMT 3.1 won't install on 2008 R2 the DS team blogged about it here

You could do the upgrade afterwards or just have a 2008 member server in the domain and have that be the "migration/tools" server.
I do know that they are testing 3.2 right now but not sure of a release date for that.

If you are unabe to get hold of a 2008 machine then you could try the ADMT 3.2 beta, but if you do make sure you test it thoroughly. It works on 2008 R2.

Hi,

Else, you can just add a 2003 DC in your new domain and install ADMT 3.1 on that. Make sure that you move PDC role on that DC prior to starting the ADMT process.
Later, you can move the role back to 2008 DC and remove the 2003 DC if you dont need it.

thx all for ur comments, i will download ADMT 3.2  & test it as im in a tesing enviroment , but regarding to install ADMT 3.1  on 2003 R2 this also failed i got same message ( ADM 3.1 must be installed on  windows 2008 server ) unless there is a different version for 2003 coz it's 32- bit

Oops! I apologize, I made a mistake in my last post... you can user ADMT 3.0 on 2003 machine...
