control panel > internet options > browsing history > delete > temp.files.
and
close all programs and open a single IE browser > tools > internet options > browsing history > settings > view files > list of temp. files.

Are the above the same set of temp. files?

I deleted my my temp. files last night, this way > control panel > internet options > browsing history > delete > temp.files.

However when I look here > close all programs and open a single IE browser > tools > internet options > browsing history > settings > view files > list of temp. files.
I see files and under the column "date last modified" some say Nov. 2009.

So, are some temp. files not deleted this way? > control panel > internet options > browsing history > delete > temp.files.

If not, which ones stay on my system?
Do they have to be highlighted manually and deleted by going to > close all programs and open a single IE browser > tools > internet options > browsing history > settings > view files > list of temp. files.

It depends on what types of files you selected to be deleted. If you chose to delete temporary internet files, but not cookies, those cookies will remain in that folder, for instance.

Try opening IE and BEFORE opening any site - if it opens a default one, change it to open a blank page and restart IE - delete everyting (temporary, cookies, history, form data, passwords, InPrivate filtering data).
After that, check again.
anyone with any comments on this question?

1. control panel > internet options > browsing history > delete > temp.files.
and
2. close all programs and open a single IE browser > tools > internet options > browsing history > settings > view files > list of temp. files.

Are the above the same set of temp. files?
I went to control panel > internet options > and deleted cookies and temp. files.
then opened an IE > tools > internet options > browsing history > settings > view files and found a few cookies and about 40-50 files. most were Irfanview files.
These seem not the be temporary files as they stay on the list.

anyone know why? on the Irfanview files?

Ok....

What you are seeing is probably the contents of the Content.ie5 folder, which doesnt get deleted by clearing the TIF, unless you select "Delete Offline Content" check box......

It is a SuperHidden folder here.....

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

Vista and Win7 is C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

So in a way, they are the same, but not everything gets deleted, unless you specify the Offline Content to be deleted as well....

If you are logged in as this user, you will stop at the "Temporary Internet Files" folder, and you will see a combination of TIF, and %userprofile%\Cookies.
