Restarting your computer is required

I'm running XP Professional. When Windows starts, a window appears with the following header - "Restarting your computer is required." The body of the window has the following text - "The computer must be restarted before updating can continue. Would you like to restart now?" I don't know what app this is associated with, but when I select restart, the computer restarts but the same window reappears. So this is an annoying infinite loop, and I'm not sure to what application this is related. Please help troubleshoot.  Thanks,  Shanknomore

then select safe mode, then go to start>run> msconfig
then go to startup tab, and unselect all entries except the antivirus one,
restart your computer and try

Acronis in Gartner 2019 MQ for datacenter backup

It is an honor to be featured in Gartner 2019 Magic Quadrant for Datacenter Backup and Recovery Solutions. Gartner’s MQ sets a high standard and earning a place on their grid is a great affirmation that Acronis is delivering on our mission to protect all data, apps, and systems.

johnb6767: I ran Process Explorer and found that the process is Adobe_Updater.exe.  I have Acrobat Professional 9 installed and also Reader (in order to read certain files in our web based apps which the full version cannot open for whatever reason).  I also noticed in Process Explorer that the icon for process named acrotray.exe has a yellow circle with an exlamation mark over the icon.   So, can you help me to troubleshoot the main problem which is the window popping up asking me to restart my computer every time I boot up and load Windows?

Acrobat Pro can open files from a web based app, no problem. Might need to reset the association though.....

You can right click PDF, hit SHIFT+Right Click>Open With, select Acrobat.exe (for the full version), and select the bottom check box "Always use this app blah blah..."....

Also, inside Acrobat>Edit>Preferences>Internet, uncheck the "Display PDF files in browser" (or check if needed), and then close Acrobat. Reverse the steps if needed to reenable that option, and retry....

And you might even uninstall the reader for now, and see if the message reappears. If so, then uninstall pro.

If it no longer appears, then reinstall one at a time, until you see the results you are needing....
