I have a dynamic disk and I would like to move a partition from there to a seperate basic disk.

Without the use of 3rd party software, can I do it?  How?  Points to anyone who has done this before and can give some tips.

I was thiniking just restore the backup to the alternate location, swap drive letters, check shares, and call it a day - would that work?

If you have a backup already then yes I think what you are proposing would be the simplest solution.  Plus you have the benefit of maintaining all your permissions.  Assuming that you mean something like a tape backup not a simple copy onto a removable disk or something.

If the system partition is on the dynamic disc, your not gonna be able to do anything with that unless you use third party. If its just an extra partition with file shares, then yea u can just move it where ever and re share it with the same names to keep the unc path and users wont notice if done correctly.
