I have a dell poweredge 2600 and I want to load server 2008 on it. Since it only has a cd drive i plugged a usb dvd drive into it and run setup from within server 2003 to upgrade to 2008. it seemed to go well then haulted saying I only hav 256mb and I need 512mb. What does that mean I have 6gb memory and what do I have to do to get past this?

If you can see the memory in the Windows 2003, then its the setting in the bios called install mode, that limits the amount of memory seen by the OS to 256 MB. Disable this feature.

Another note, you should be installing windows 2008 Enterprise, or use the x64bit version to be able to benefit from the memory more than 4GB, or it would be just a waste.

The 2600 does not support x64.
