The service is "World Wide Web publishing ", make sure it is set to automatic. Also, start the "Internet Information Services" console, and make sure you focus on your computer. and make sure the required web service is started.

HTTP SSL
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/Services/HTTP_SSL.htm

This is the one you are missing?

From a working machine.....

Go to regedit, and export the following......

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\HTTPFilter

Then import onto this machine, and see if the service works (after a reboot).....

Sorry, on Win7 at the moment.....

Do you know the Service Name?

If so, export the reg key from a working one......

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\<SERVICENAME>

Probably just "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\http".....

The name is HTTP service, when you open the HTTP SSL service dependence page, you will see it is depends on HTTP, this is the one I try to start.

If not too much time has gone by, why not try a system restore to the day when everything was working ok. This would save you a lot of trouble. Click start, Help and Support, click "undo changes to your computer with system restore" and choose a date.  After it reboots you should be ready to go. This will not erase any of your data.  But if you have installed any programs since this problem, you will have to re-install them again.
Hope this helps.
