asked on

western digital hard drive not detected

having all sorts of issues with my new build.

---------Western Digital 500G SATAII 7200 rpm HDD(16Mb Cache)------------

this hard drive is showing...repeat....showing in the bios.

but when the computer is turned on message pops

------------------detecting drives: Done: No drives found---------------------

at the same time im trying to get windows 7 installed, but only getting to

--------------completing install-----------------------

this is another story, so I wont go on about it cause I already have another post on this one, but not much help is coming my way.

i seem to have put something on the drive.....I dont understand.

Please see the photos attached: There is actually a photo I have attached showing the physical connections in the tower. Am I missing something in the end port, I was under the understanding that the serial ata to the motherboard and the sata(providing power) is all that is needed.......well, thats all I got from the store anyway.

thanks for any help.

can you see the images?

DETECTING DRIVES: DONE: NO DRIVES FOUND

but then displays in bios.
when I try to use this program

http://www.dban.org/

this program tells me that there is no drive detected?

thats why im asking.....the experts.....cause this is not making any sense.

The drive failed.  Get a warranty replacement.
See if the drive mode is set to RAID in your BIOS. Or connect the drive to different SATA port. What mobo is used by you?
Also, I can recollect the 500GB drive series from WD having firmware issues.
BTW, it should not be set to RAID - either SATA or IDE.
Look like photo 2 is trying to detect a RAID setup - noxcho has this - look in the BIOS setup for RAID and disable it you simply need SATA/IDE
Your hardware setup looks good to go.
Looks like several attempts to install W7 - best format the drive when you next run setup .
dBan is probably confused because the BIOS is looking for a RAID install
please see the images below. these are the only references that I can find towards raid.

I dont need raid

this is the motherboard I have.

      Asus P7P55D P55 4DDR3 FSB2133(OC) RAID GLAN 2xPCIEx16 SATA ATX

the defaults are set to use

really frustrating cause I do want to start fresh on this new build, but I feel as though im gonna have to give up and take it to a guy to do it for me.

thanks for your comments

what is the AHCI mode  ?

Why do you look on external eSATA controller?
Search in Advanced section of BIOS for SATA- RAID-AHCI-Enhanced IDE options.

Get to BIOS - Advanced - is there RAID enabled? If yes then disable it.
Ah, I am looking different BIOS.
ok,
I put the cable to the motherboard on sata_E1

it does not show in the sata 1
                                      sata 2
                                      etc, etc

but does show up in the boot preference.

anyway, I am now in the dban program and about to wipe hard disk so things are coming along......

ill get back to you.
Must not have used program correctly.
Dban.

Still showing 6 other win 7 os

only get as far as win 7 ; completing installation and freezes.

As far as prob with HD not being detected ....it's more or less better with the changed data cable.

Thanks.
if you run dban -  your disk should be empty - and you know that.
maybe there is something else on the drive going on.
run the WD diag , from UBCD : http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
you can also write zero's to the drive to erase it
