dv9000 NVIDIA problem
i have a dv9000 here where the GPU heats up too much
when i opened it up, i found thermal pads on Cpu and other chip.
but on the G86 NVIDIA chip (to the left of the rectangle)i found only a black plastic, with transparant plastic in the middle.
my question is : is this normal ?
can somebody tell me 100 % sure this is how it should be or not ?
also - if i apply heatpaste - should i remove the plastic ?

Yes, that is the way they are. If you place a heat sink on it (carefully) you will see the GPU temp drop right down. I have been thinking about using ceramique and paste a copper shim to it.

It's against the rules to put infor in here but you could put your email address in you profile. Also, I have been thinking about it. I could put it on ebay for say a dollar and post the link.

i posted my e-mail - did you get it? (i can't see it..)
and how is the copper plate installed? meaning : must the black and transparent plastic be removed?

No, I can't see it either. I can't figure out how to do that, I was hoping you knew.
Yes, clean the heat sink so it makes direct contact to the pasted shim.

i found the shim around here, so it's not necessary for you to mail it to me - but thanks again for the offer, really appreciated !
Any time, it would be a pleasure to help someone that spends so much time helping others.
Let me know if you ever figure out how to post something on your profile.

ASKER
the shims are on order...
Did you order them to have them in stock or are you still trying to resolve the overheating problem?
ASKER
i'm waiting to put them on the lappie to get it repaired - if possible.
anyhow - you'll get the points, with an A+++++++++
