I am learning SqlServer2008 and I see notation in an instructional book for variables that start with the letter "N" and then an apostrophe ('). Is that only for unicode backwards compatibility with prior versions of SqlServer? When am I supposed to use that syntax and when is it not necessary/appropriate?
