Hello everyone,
I'm trying to update the firmware on my blackberry 8800 vodafone branded.
I downloaded, and istalled, the latest version of Blackberry Desktop Manager (5.0.1.28) I downloaded, and installed, the latest firmware version 8800M_PBR4.5.0_rel75_PL2.7.0.66_A4.5.0.52_TIM_Italy (isn't my branded phone operator but I changed it and this one is the latest firmware avaiable) my 8800 has the following firmware 4.2.1.101.
Occurring on several blogs I tried to delete files vendor.xml and another one (that I can not remember now)
I tried to remove the battery and wait 10 minutes to repeat the procedure, preceded by uninstalling and reinstalling both the firware that the desktop manager, but nothing doing.
Anyone have any suggestions on?
Thanks

Hi, did you remove the vendor.xml file found on programfiles\commonfiles\researchinmotin\apploader?

Commented:
Yes i removed the vendor.xml file - and isn't present in the directory

No error only that the system didn't find any application to be upgraded on the smartphone,
but its has an 4.2.1.101 firmware installed and the new one, installed on the pc is the 4.5

OK Stefano, try to wipe the handheld from security options, general, bb button, wipe, and then when it's restarting (keep it connected to your PC), go to the apploader folder and run "loader.exe /nojvm". It should upgrade now.

Hi Miguel,
I tried everythings you wrote but noway!
No error only that there isn't upgrade for the device.
I tried to disconnect the battery and repeat the procedure:
"go to the apploader folder and run "loader.exe /nojvm"
only thie message:
"BlackBerry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device connected to your computer"
I think that could be something with the Blackberry Device Software but I don't know what!!
I tried to unistall in order:
Blackberry Device Software;
BlackBerry Desktop Software.
and install it again in the reverse order.
Like I wrote before the version for the Desktop Software is 5.0.1 and the version of the Device Software is 4.5.0 on my device the version is 4.2.1.
I'm going crazy!

Stefano, which is the model of your handheld? Perhaps the 4.5.0 package you have is not official, have you got it from blackberry downloads?

Is Storm 8800 and Yes I've got it from Blackberry downloads.
My device is branded by vodafone and the firmware is from another provider but I read that is possible upgrade the device's firmware from different provider than the banded one.
Is it true??

Stefano

Commented:
Yes it's true Stefano, you can get firmwares from other vendors, that's why we need to delete the vendor.xml file. Could you try getting another subversion for 8800?

Here you have the 4.5.294 for Vodafone Spain: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=15D4E891D784977CACBFCBB00C48F133

And as you may know, here the list of all the providers, so you can test more if needed: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

Miguel

PS: You never need to uninstall the desktop software, just the device firmware package is enough.
