Outlook issue (0x8004210B)

Hi,

I have a customer who sometimes has connectivty problems with his Outlook. Sometimes he will just start receiving 0x8004210B error messages when he tries to do a Send/Receive (SMTP, outgoing related).

Windows Firewall is turned off and I have tried to disable Symantec Endpoint as well to see if it could be causing it. I can however send a email via telnet if I telnet from his PC to the SMTP server. So there doesnt appear to be a problem with the mail server or on his PC. It seems to be related to Outlook only.

Another user has this problem as well, however not as frequently. This seems to have started at the same time as no one has had this problem previously. Maybe caused by a Windows/Office update?

Any ideas?

What version of Outlook are you using?
Is it up-to-date in terms of Windows Updates?
Have you run Help> Detect & Repair or Help> Office Diagnostics?

ASKER

Hi,

Yes sorry I should have mentioned. All availabe Windows/Office Updates are applied. And this is Outlook 2003 SP3.

I tried the Detect & Repair which lauched the office installer but it didnt resolve the problem.

Best Regards

Fredrik
You may find that the Symantec is causing the problems.  You may not be able to disable / configure this as SEP is controlled by a server and unless you have server control, you might have problems.
Here is a general troubleshooting guide that incorporates the error you are receiving:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813514
Can you please have a read through it and work through the various options and see what works (assuming something does).
Sorry for the delay, the problem has rectified itself again so I am just waiting for it to occur again so that I can test all the suggestions above.
Got to love those intermittent problems!
No probs - here if you need me.
