Outlook 2007 Instant Search Feature

I'm interested in utilizing Outlook 2007's instant search feature.  I currently do not utilize Outlook in cache mode.  Due to this it seems I'm unable to select any data files to be indexed.  Is cache mode required for Outlook 2007's instant search feature?  If so, then I can't utilize the search feature due to the mailbox that I'm needing to use it on is over 20 gb's in size.

Cached mode isn't required. The search will index ost files as well.

sorry I posted that....ost files are the cached mode files!

ouch.  Well.. due to the size of the mailbox .ost will be WAY slow...  ok.  I'll use a 3rd party search tool.
Outlook 2007 Instant Search requires either a .pst or Exchange cached mode (.ost). For the desktop client to benefit from Exchange 2007 Search they need to use either Outlook Web Access or a MAPI profile without Exchange cached mode (online mode).

Thanks for the info about Exchange 2007.  I'm still running Exchange 2003, however, I thought I read something about Exchange 2007 and on supporting server side indexing.
