Hi,

I am having the strangest issue lately with Live messenger 14.0.
I cannot login to it from my office until the afternoon.
I'm talking like 2 - 3 PM CST.
some users reporting the same issue, most users are fine.
I have a freshly installed windows 7 Pro recently.
My msn at home works flawlessly.
Keeps throwing random errors 8000306 seems to come up the most.
I have tried the troubleshooter and the TCP tests and it says everything its fine its not.

Anyone else encountered this?

When you open IE, is it "Offline"? If so, click on File on the menu and uncheck "Work Offline" ... there also seems to be a problem with your wireless... are you able to connect to other sites normally?

This should clean up your TCP/IP settings from any corruption: From the command prompt (as administrator) type:
Netsh Winsock Reset

The command he used was (typed from the command prompt as administrator):
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

I also found this post and have tried that as well, still no luck connecting until late afternoon.
It's the oddest thing.
Thanks for looking.

Did you try the Netsh Winsock Reset command? Also.... try restarting the router... it is usually magical... lol.

Author

Commented:
I dont think restarting the router will help, tons of other users in my office are on msn just fine.
Just seems its me and few other people.

Winsock reset didnt help.

It won't hurt to try .... the other night I was having all kinds of problems just with my laptop. Everyone else was working fine. I had restarted the router several times and I was even getting an IP address, subnet mask, DNS and gateway....
At one point after a couple of hours troubleshooting a looked at another computer and noticed that they had a different DNS ... WTF?
So I called Comcast Cable (my ISP) and explained. They had me unplug the coaxial cable (I was like cracking up thinking:these guys are so lost) .... it turns out that the joke was on me.... the unplugging of the coaxial cable forces the router/modem to re-request the IP and all the other settings so the DHCP server gets updated and sends the info to the clients..... Crazy.....
So, just humor me.... please.

Now I can magically login to msn now and its 4 pm cst, how freaking odd.
I'll try and reboot the router tonight or tomorrow, depending on what the rest of the office is doing at end of day.

Is it possible that a GP in your domain is blocking the morning connections? Are you the network administrator?

Author

Commented:
Yes I'm the network admin, we arent blocking any software or outbound connections on the network.

Have you verified if it is only your computer the one that cannot connect in the morning and all the other computers have no problem connecting?
We need to eliminate variables....

Ok .... so this confirms my suspicions. It's not your computer. It's the network. It's not a coincidence that it started happening at the same time and that it started happening to WinXP Pro and Win7 at the same time.
It is one of the settings in the router's firewall or your ISP.

You need to find what is the common denominator with the other users that cannot connect and you and what is different with the ones that can connect.... are they on a different subnet, different switch... something is different.
For testing.... walk over to one of the computers that CAN Connect and unplug the ethernet cable and plug it into your laptop.... are you able to connect?

I'm starting to think its internet router, i'm most likely on a different msn server than other people and the ISP routing is out of date or messed up for that server.
