Oracle 8i under Windows 7 64-bit
I have managed to install the Oracle 8i client under Windows 7 64-bit but when I try to add new Oracle  data sources via the ODBC Administrator utility, only SQL Native Client and SQL Server drivers are listed - no sign of Oracle.

Does anyone have any experience of setting this up correctly please?

Since 8i has been desupported for years, I'm sure there is some incompatibility causing this 'feature'.

Is there a reason you're using the 8i client?

ASKER

Unfortunately this is the only version of the Client that I have access to. My customer has Oracle 8 databases.

where can you download oracle database and client 8i?
what steps were used to install oracle 8i on a windows 7 64-bit machine?

I was not able to get my Oracle 8i client to install under Windows 7 64-bit at all.

I ended up downloading Oracle 11g from oracle.Com and installing this instead.

Good Luck!

Just to add:  8i has been desupported and is no longer available for download.  If you were able to find it on the Internet somewhere, I wouldn't trust it.

Oracle is an object-relational database management system. It supports a large number of languages and application development frameworks. Its primary languages are SQL, PL/SQL and Java, but it also includes support for C and C++. Oracle also has its own enterprise modules and application server software.
