Customizing the look of Lotus iNotes
You can customize the look and behavior of IBM® Lotus® iNotes™ by creating an extension forms file (Forms85_x.nsf for this release), which has several customization points built in for you. Once the extension forms file is created, you can edit it using IBM® Lotus® Domino® Designer to add customizations to Lotus iNotes. Customization is supported in both full and lite mode.

Note Multiple extension forms files are not supported on a single Domino server.

The extension forms file contains these subforms you can use to customize Lotus iNotes:

Custom_Banner_Lite -- to replace the Lotus iNotes logo
Custom_Common_Utils -- to add functions that will be called from both Custom_JS and Custom_JS_lite
Custom_CSS -- to add new CSS styles
Custom_JS -- contains callback functions you can use to add or remove action bar items, add additional code when pages are displayed or submitted. Used for older "classic" architecture forms. (Most of the code uses the newer forms, however there are a few of the older forms still in use.)
Custom_JS_Edit -- to add more fonts to the rich text editor
Custom_JS_Lite -- contains similar callback functions to Custom_JS, used for newer "lite" architecture forms
Custom_Masthead -- to add a masthead to all pages
Custom_Name_Lite - the code for Korean name display format
Custom_Page_Dictionary -- to add new variable values for use with the Custom_CSS subform
Custom_WelcomePage -- to add more choices for the end user's Welcome Page
Creating an extension forms file
From Domino Designer or the Lotus Notes client, click File - Application - New.
In the Specify New Application Name and Location section, select your Domino server.
For "File name" enter "Forms85_x.nsf" and locate it in the iNotes directory under the Domino Data directory.
In the Specify Template for New Application section, select your Domino server.
Check "Show advanced templates."
Select the "Lotus iNotes Extension Forms (8.5)" template (Forms85_x.ntf).
Make sure "Inherit future design changes" is not checked.
Modifying Lotus iNotes common forms file
Use this process any time you modify the Forms85_x.nsf file.

Copy Forms85_x.nsf to a temporary directory.
Make changes to the forms as desired in the temporary copy of the Forms85_x file.
Flush the Domino server database cache using the dbc f server command.
Copy the Forms85_x file back to the Lotus iNotes directory under the Domino Data directory.
Stop and restart the HTTP process on the server using the tell http restart server command.
Clear the browser cache.
Test the changes.

Can confirm that the file is there as shown above on our 8.5 servers.  It is hidden from the normal "open database" box but can be seen by selecting your servername and typing in Forms85_x.ntf into the filename box, or creating the db from the template as shown above.
