HP Data Protector 6.11 - vmware integration times out durning backup
HP Data Protector 6.11 - Issue running backup of vmware data store on standalone and vcenter. Allowed all incomming and outgoing traffic on esx 4.0 and turned off firewall on vcenter (windows2k8) and cell manager (windows2k8). I am able to install vmware integration. not using VCB. I can select my virtual machines and backup to disk device. I have fully patched cell manager and agents. I can backup using disk agent of ESX and vcenter. I have attached backup output. I tried on two different vsphere clusters and have now removed and running in lab all with the same results.

From the cell mgr, are you able to telnet to the esx at port 5555 ?

Correct I can telnet to port 5555 and can resolve by host name through DNS. I also tried host file. Running process monitor on vcenter shows vmware_bar.exe will even open a data connection back to cell manager on port 42001 and running netstat and process monitor on the cell manager shows the established connection. I was also running wireshark and it shows initial communication but as soon as the connection is established from vcenter to cell manager no more traffic goes back and forth.

Is there a way to debug vmware integration agent on esx?

Half the problem was dns the other half was incorrect backup device configuration. Added all clients to hosts files on esx, DP, vCenter, and configure a file library. Fixed issue.
