I'm in the process of refreshing my file server disaster recovery plan and wanted some opinions to see what everyone is doing these days.
What I have been doing for a number of years, is maintaining a low end backup server with an identical tape drive in a storage space. In the event of a complete and total loss, I could pull the server out of storage, restore everything from tape, and work from that server until replacement hardware arrived.
Does anyone have any opinions on using some type of commercial online backup solution as an alternative to the above? I really like the flexibility of having an up to the minute backup of my data, and be able to pull down what I need on demand.
Is anyone doing something like this for disaster recovery? If so can anymore recommend any companies/brands? There are about a million of them out there and not too sure where to start. A very large portion is also geared towards home use as well.
Just to clarify, I only have a single office, so replication to a branch office wouldn't really be possible. I think that would take doubletake out of the picture.
I just was looking for an alternate for mozy.com, and I noticed somebody sort of recommended them on 2/16 up there. Not so great. Bad support and I currently have an exchange server being backed up there which consists of like 10 1mb files and one 30gb file. They can get me the 1mb files, but nobody seems to be able to get the 30gb file.
They are supposed to respond in 24 hrs, but I have to switch . If this were a real disaster, I would be in a lot of trouble.
