Create Exchange 2010 New User with Email Address and Mailbox
By default, the Administrator account gets a mailbox created.  By default, the Recepient Configuration creates a mailbox for the Administrator user with a Primary SMTP address of Administrator@domain.local (in my case).  How do I configure a new user using my public domain?  I have created a A and MX record in my DNS Server with the public domain.  For example, how would I create a user named "contactus@publicdomain.com".  When I attempt to create a new mailbox and user, on User Information tab, in the User Logon Name (Principal User Name) my only option in the dropdown is @domain.local

You need to add a UPN suffix by opening up Active Directory Domains and Trusts, then right-clicking on Active Directory Domains and Trusts, then adding the new domain name to the list of UPN Suffixes.

I performed the steps that r-jansen suggested.  I now see the malbox box with the appropriate SMTP address.  I tried to email the new user and it does not come through.  Not sure what I am missing.  I think it's something with my Receive Connector, but I am not sure.  I am able to send email out, so that tells me that my SendConnector is working.

Thoughts?

Two of us have told you this is about UPN suffixes (and I told you how to set this up) and you pick the third comment that is incorrect, based on your question!

I sure did.  I've attached a screenshot.

I did not follow the UPN suggestions because I was misleading in my original post, my apologies.  I do not want to change the way I login to the mailbox.

The only thing not working now is not being able to receive email.

No problems.
Have you setup a new accepted domain?

Have you also setup a new Recipient Policy for the new domain?

I'm confused.

Are you not able to receive mail internally or only externally?

You do seem to be lacking MX records.  Good spot Akhater.

Perfect!  Thanks so much guys!  I had forgotten to foward smtp traffic on my Cisco Firewall.  Also had a mix up in my MX record.
