How To Remove Software Distribution Service 3.0

I have a laptop that has been totally ruined by the Software Distribution Service 3.0 update that has installed itself even when automatic updates are turned off.  I can't do a restore to an earlier date because every date i have to retore from for the past 2 months has checkpoint and Software Distribution Service 3.0.  My computer is extremely slow now and doing many strange things like shutting off after about 3 hours, wanting to do chkdsk after every startup, and bluescreen errors after a certain time...please help me remove this completely

So far as I know (with some quick Google support) this is not a Microsoft Update, and so has nothing to do with Automatic Updates. You have probably picked up a virus. ... Thinkpads_User
I did some searching in a Microsoft forum and one poster suggested look for windowsspywaredefender and removing it. ... Thinkpads_User

I disagree with 2 out of 3 of those comments.

I found this comment How I got rid of Software Distribution Service 3.0
I removed all Windows updates that were recently added. To get rid of a Security Update: Start Control Panel Add or Remove Programs check the box at top to "show updates" go down until you find the Security Update number you want to remove. Click on it and click Remove.

I removed security update KB943055 and never re-installed it because it kept adding back Software Distribution Service 3.0.

I got around a few months later to installing some of the updates back. But I turned off Updates permanently by going to Start, My Computer, C:\Windows\System 32 and looked for verclsid.exe and changed the file extension from .exe to .old.

No matter whatever choices I picked for Microsoft Updates (notify me, etc), if I didn't change the verclsid.exe file extension, it kept giving me Software Distribution Service 3.0 which messes up my computer. And this is truly only getting the updates you want.
There are many comments on the web that states this is an update by microsoft!
I agree with dstewartjr cause that is exactly what i got on all restore point dates
I don't have it on any of my systems (XP, Vista or Windows 7). What does if come from if it is a valid program? I know you disagree with me, but I cannot find anything valid about it, so please do enlighten me so I can back off if I am wrong.  Thanks. ... Thinkpads_User
Software Distribution Service isn't actually a separate product or
component on your computer.  It's just the name that Windows Update puts on the
 restore points it creates
Thank you. I do not know what to believe out of all this or what I read elsewhere because of the confliciting infomation, so I will just unsubscribe from this thread. ... Thinkpads_User
