Windows 2003. how to set audit on files.

Hi,
I am considering set Audit on file and folders on my file servers.
Group policy is Ok.
Now I need to set audit on all files under subfolder tree.
Much of the Acl were already set to files defferently.  I dont like to break
those setting while setting audit on subfolders.
Is there any way to set audit without interacting the ACL settings.
I also would like to know the command to set audit on files and folders.

Thanks
