Cisco PIX525 Reversed Airflow

Hi,

I just received a shipment of used Cisco PIX 525 units and all of them have reversed airflow. In other words the cooling fans instead of sucking cool air through the front bezel are instead pumping out hot air. These units will be installed in the server cabinets with a strict hot/cold rows and I need to change the airflow so that the cool air is directed from the front to back of the PIX unit like the rest of devices on rack. Can I simply open these units and flip the fans around or is this a factory default configuration? I have never seen this on any other Cisco equipment we have handled in the past.

I guess when they refurb the box someone installed them wrong.

here is a good doc;

Also they are sometimes installed in the rack the other way around so you can get to the interfaces. That might be why it is reversed as someone else may have had a similar issue to you in the past. We always mount ours with the bezel mounted towards the inside of the rack.

I flipped the fans to blow air inside the box as discussed, I do not think this will cause any cooling issues as there is good airflow coming out the back plate of the chassis. The only concern is the airflow of the power adapter which seem to be going from back to front, however I do not believe this will cause overheating.
