My hard drive in my laptop was failing, so i used pcmover to move the settings to the new laptop computer, both run windows xp.  At about 95% pcmover stopped and froze up, i could never get the old laptop working again so i pulled the drive and just cut and pasted my entire user directory from the old computer to the new one.

so everything from:

e:\documents and settings\user

to

c:\documents and settings\user

now when i login i cant make any changes to anything.  so if i want to see hidden files i make the change say apply and nothing happens.

when i go to environment variables I get this error:

Cannot open USER environment is registry. possible registry corruption

Any ideas what i can do to get back up and running?

thanks
