Windows server 2008 will not connect to internet

We have a server 2008 standard with sp2. This was installed at the beginning of February.
A few days ago we lost internet connection on this machine.
It's still available on the local net.
I can ping outside addresses like www.google.com or just ip adressess.
Sometimes the network and sharing shows that internet is available, though when i try to browse it's not working.

This is really frustrating. All the drivers for this machine (HP DL380 G6) is updated and are the same version as last week when everything worked fine!

I have not done anything with the configuration on this machine.
I have also tried different network cards, switches cables etc. Still the same problem.

I have done some searching and there seems to be an issue on some installations of 2008 but none of the solutions I have found works for me.

Anyone have any idea????

So, it seems that you have proper DNS resolution to the internet based on your ping tests.  And it seems that connectivity is not the issue...

So what is the error that you get when you launch IE?

Can you try Right Clicking on the IE icon and choosing RUN as Administrator.  Does this work?  ..just wondering..

ASKER

IE reports just: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

Same problem when I choose Run as Administrator

Arg... The firewall is off but still it seems like something is blocking the access to internet.
Do you use an Internet Proxy Server?  How are you proxy settings set on the windows 2008 server?

Clear all checks if no proxy is being used

Also, do you have a limit on the number of users that can access the internet?  Some gateway or firewall product (like you internet hardware router) require licenses to access the internet,.... maybe you are running out of licenses...

- check Event Viewer for any errors...

- Download firefox...to see if you get the error.

- do other users have problem accessing the internet?

We do not have any proxy. And the settings are as you say; no checkboxes are selected.
Firefox does not work either.
I have also tried to telnet to port 80 and 25 with the same result...

Did I mentioned  that the server work until Tuesday this week...??

I have also checked the firewall and the settings are the same for this server as for all the other.
No users have this problem, only the server.

Try reseting the winsock.

Make sure the server is pointing to the proper DNS servers.
