How to Redirect Printer Port LPT1 to USB001?

I have an older software package for my HP LaserJet 1100A, which comes with a scanner. Since I have a newer pc, there is no parallel port on the pc. I purchased a Parallel to USB cable, which works well for it, when I am just printing to it. My issue is that I would like to get the scanner software to work with it as well. The problem, is that the scanner software is trying to detect the printer on LPT1, when it is in fact on USB001. I suspect that if I can redirect LPT1 to USB001, it might actually work. Can someone help in how to do this redirection?

This is on a Windows XP desktop machine.

I appreciate your help & suggestions. I actually already happen to have this printer shared out (I print to it from two laptops we have here at home), so that part I know is setup correctly. Here is what I'm seeing with the second option:

C:\>net use LPT1 /delete
The network connection could not be found.

More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2250.


C:\>net use LPT1 \\duddy\jet /persistent:yes
System error 85 has occurred.

The local device name is already in use.

Unfortunately, that's not an option for this desktop ... it's one of those Sony Vaio All-in-One desktop systems, that can't be expanded. It was a good thought, though!

It seems like the redirection should work for this, but Im not sure still how to do it successfully.
