Right shift d turns on Caps Lock Windows 7

When typing and the need to use a capital d arises being someone who types with both hands I will use the right shift key and hit the d key.   What happens next is that I go into full caps, I will sometimes get a both a c and a d come out (CD) and I will remain in Caps Lock.

This becomes most fustrating when I have need to put in a password that just happens to have a capital D in it.

Any thoughts?

I have a few questions.  First of all does this only happen when your typing in a Microsoft Office application and if it does what version are you using or does it do it all the time like when you type in Internet Explorer?  In Office, the shortcut for allcaps is Ctl + Shift + A.

No.  This happens no matter where I am typing (referencing the password issue in my original post).  I've seen this issue in IE, Google Chrome, All of the Office Products (currently Office 2010 Beta) and Notepad.

I did neglect to mention that hitting both shift keys (left and right) will turn this off.
Give this a try - open your control panel, click on clock language and region, then change keyboards and other input methods.  There should be a tab along the top that says "keyboards and languages" click there and then on change keyboards.  Once you get to this point click on the "advanced key settings" along the top and make sure the "press the CAPS LOCK key" is checked instead of shift.
Hi, do you have intellitype installed, with a Microsoft keyboard?

If you have an intellitype KB and you just installed it onto a WIN 7 pro box then you might need the latest version of intellitype for the keyboard from Microsoft.

The same applies if you are running the one from the CD.  You also may want to go into the control panel or under the programs menu, open up intellitype and change the settings for caps lock, or any other special mappings that may be enabled by default.

Another suggestion related to #2 above would be to enter msconfig (Start - Run - msconfig), and then untick the 'Load Startup Items' box near the bottom. Reboot, and see if the behaviour stops. If it does, then you know one of the processes was causing the issue. Then you go back into msconfig, tick the box again, and go to the Startup tab to selectively remove programs that you think might be causing the issue.
dasoburn - I looked there earlier and it was set right.  But, since you put the entry in I double checked and it was still correct.  I even tried changing it to Shift, saving it and then changing it back to Caps Lock and saving.  Nothing changed.

I'm sorry.  i got interrupted when I was last posting an killed it by accident.

I just found what the issue was.  I recently had a softphone installed.  Based on the last post from daosburn, i checked some of the settings and found that Shift+d was a hot key.  Who the heck came up with this!?!?!

Anyway, I've changed it, since i couldn't disable it, to a key combination I would be less likely to use.  I've changed it to ctrl-z.

Thanks for all the help!
Glad to hear its working
Yes, I object as we completely assisted with his issue.  Both Ryan and myself both gave examples of some kind of external software that may have been causing this issue.  How could we possibly have determined that it was softvoice that was causing it?  I believe that it was our suggestions that gave the user pause to look at software that was keyboard related.

Thanks
I guess I'm missing something here.  I answered that both Ryan and daosburn's comments were helpful to leading me in the right direction. But no one in particular solved the issue, it was more of a group effort.  How do I give points to several people when none had the actual solution.
As far as looking at software that was keyboard related I disagree.  This software, like many applications, may use keystrokes for shortcuts, or may not.
I hate to grade low in this case but I do only because I resolved the issue myself.  BUT, the help I received from the experts got me thinking in a different direction and indirectly led me to the solution.
Thanks BC.  The reason that I did this is because this will remain in our database if anyone else has an issue like this.

No offense intended.

Thank you for using EE.
