ESXi 4 Lost Access to Volume - local storage

Big problem ..  A week ago there was a powercut, UPS died, and a vmware server running ESXi4 was instantly turned off - it was running a single guest, SBS 2003.   The powercut also appears to have killed one of the disks on the raid array  ( raid 5, running on a HP ML350 G5).   Anyway, all restarted, Windows moaned so did a chkldsk, and appeared happy.  When the replacement disk came inserted it, and let it carry on re-building the array. A few days later exchange started dismounting the store, and   ESXi has been moaning every minute about  " Lost access to Volume ..."  then restores access to volume, and the guest has become unusable  after an hour I've given up trying to shut it down, and just terminate the power on the vsphere console..  At which stage the errors have stopped.

I'm doing a veeam fastscp before I re-start it  ( which is really slow :-( ).

Any ideas where these errors have come from, and is there anything I can do to resolve them.
