USB wireless keyboard and mouse stopped working, now receiving "keyboard failure" msg. at startup

I have a Dell XPS 410, running WIn7.  I use a Microsoft Wireless Desktop Receiver 3.1 for both my keyboard and mouse.  While saving a file to an external drive that was plugged into one of the front USB 2.0 ports, I lightly, LIGHTLY, brushed the drive with my foot.  Upon doing this, the computer froze all activity/processes and devices.  I performed a hard restart, and when it started back up, after the DELL screen the next screen displayed "Keyboard Failure."  I then had the option to "Launch Windows Start up Repair" or "Start Windows Normally."   Seeing as how I could not use my keyboard to choose anything different, I waited the L:30 secs and let it launch WIndows Start up repair.  Of course after a short scan, a window pops up asking if I want to System Restore or Cancel.  Again, no keyboard or mouse leaves unable to do anything.  I have tried plugging in wired USB keyboards, wired USB mouses(mice?), and those do not work either.  M wireless key/mouse does work in a different computer.  I plug in an external hard drive and a portable drive, as well as an audio interface and printer  into the various USB ports and all of those devices light up, burt I am not sure if they are functional as I cant fully boot my computer.  No diagnostic lights are lit on the front of my computer.  In a large nutshell, that is my problem, any ideas on what I should do?  I do not have my Dell DIagnostic CD just fyi...Please help, thank  you for any and all provided.
