We have a MOSS 2007 site that was built with a rather long FQDN. Due to how finicky the system can get as the path gets longer and longer, I would like to shorten our site's name.
My goal is to change "mysharepoint.mydomain.com" to "myspsite".
I already achieved this in the web browser by setting up Alternate Access Paths in Central Administration and can now browse the site with the shortened name. The problem I am encountering is getting the short name to work when browsing the Sharepoint file system.
My site originally is referenced using "mysharepoint.mydomain.com". I can type \\mysharepoint.mydomain.com in the address bar and see the virtual Sharepoint file system and delve into my document libraries in a familiar format.
Now I have alternate access paths so I can browse to "myspsite" instead of "mysharepoint.mydomain.com" through the web browser, however I can not enter \\myspsite and still get the file system. I need to use the old name for this to work.
Does anyone know what steps I need to take to be able to browse the Sharepoint file system using the shortened name?
