large files on the desktop can slow your computer down?

Hi there,

Do largefiles stored on your desktop slow down your computer? An XP pc was failing to start some programs saying  there was not enough memory to run that program. I moved about 6gb of files from the desktop to my documents folder. The problem disapperared - is this a coinsidence or is it bad to keep large files on your XP desktop. How about other OS?

Thanks!

always better to keep the large files in separate partition ( other than OS partition )

It's a coincidence.

Your background picture would have more of an effect.  It should be prepared for "Web-Ready" type size before using.  I see this problem with the average user a lot.
its a good practice to keep the desktop clean, but its a mere coincident :)

if your document folder is on a different disk or partition you allowed your page file to grow some more. If you closed some windows you also freed memory and that made the move a coincidence.   and so on

Ok, so those file wouldn't be loading in ram and taking up resources, apart from the background picture and  other such  theme details I suppose.
