Lenovo SL500 Laptop DVD Drive Disappears from My Computer
I have a 9 month old Lenovo SL500 laptop from a client. It seems that the DVD Drive will disappear at odd times from My Computer, hence you can not see an optical drive on the laptop at all.
When I open Device Manager it is also NOT listed as a DVD/CD-ROM drive. That group is not there.
however if I Scan for hardware changes it comes back and works fine.
Does anyone know why this would happen? I thought it was a hardware issue, but the drive reads discs fine once Windows finds it.
I am presuming it is more software related now than hardware!

The Drive does show up at start-up, but then after a space of time it dissappears.

Start Power Manager by clicking Start ¿ All programs ¿ ThinkVantage ¿ Power Manager
Look inside the settings of Power Manager to see if there is anything in relations to DVD or CD drive.

One simple question.
Will the DVD disappears after a a space of time regardless whether power adaptor is attached?

There were two instances of DVD Drive showing in Device Manager. I took one out and it works fine now!
Thank you mbelletty. Glad you got it sorted out.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, I would go look to Lenovo's support website and try to find updated firmware or drivers.
Hope this helps!
