Reporting Services metadata database in a separate server

As I understand when you install Reporting Services (2005 or 2008) using the SQL Server Express edition, it creates two databases in the database server (ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB).

1. Can we opt to not install the SQL Server database and install the Reporting Services only. In this case can we implement these two databases in some other ODBC database (for eg. IBM Mainframe cobol database).

2. Secondly since we are installing Reporting services in a web server, can we opt to install these two databases in another server. How can we point to another server where a ODBC data source is already installed.
