How do I fix the Event ID: 6014 error message?

My Edge Transport Server's Applications Event Log Reports the following error:

Description:                        Microsoft Forefront Server Security encountered an error while performing a scan engine update.
Scan Engine:                      Kaspersky5
Update Path:                    http://forefrontdl.microsoft.com/server/scanengineupdate/x86/Kaspersky5
Proxy Settings: Disabled
Error Code: 0xC0001F58
Description: The operation timed out.

This same event id is logged for Scan Engine CAVet, Sophos, and AhnLab.  The error doesn't appear for VBuster, Norman, or Microsoft.

I've done the following:
Extended the timeout period so that the engine can be updated.

Opened regedit on my Edge Transport server and navigated to:  

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Forefront Server Security\Exchange Server

I created a new DWORD, "EngineDownloadTimeout". Give it a decimal value of 600 to increases the timeout from the default of 5 minutes to 10 minutes.  I waited for the next update, but the messages still log in the applications event.  Users get disconnected from the Exchange Server when this error occurs.  Do you have any suggestions for a fix?

To disable the updates launch Forefront Server Security Administrator then navigate to Settings->Scanner Updates. Click on CA InoculateIT then click the Disable button on the right hand side.

Thanks.  I know that I can disable the engine, but is it recommended.  I was looking for a solution to fix it with having to diable.  Other than the error that it is causing, what would be a good reason to diable a scan engine if it is needed?

This is happening on more than one engine.  I don't think disabling all of them would be a good thing to do?  Any other solutions?

This question has not be answered to our satisfaction.  It's been open for a month now, and I haven't had but one response.  The one response was not an acceptable solution, so I asked for more information.  Still no response.  I object to the deletion, and I would like for anyone who specializes in the problem in question, to please assist me with finding a solution to Error 6014.  This error causes my Edge Transport Service to stop every evening, thus not allowing email to my Hub Transport.

According to this Microsoft  article the root cause of the problem is a change made by Kaspersky  to the format of their signature downloads.  The Kaspersky engine is one  of the engines included with Forefront, and the signatures are  downloaded from Microsoft.com.  The change has caused a compatibility  problem with Forefront due to the way in which Forefront interprets file  names that start with a period character.


I haven't faced this yet :-) but trying to help.
