Filemaker Pro Printer Scripts by IP Address?

I ran into a slight problem today… you may know that Jxxxxwas moved to the temp desk and the new employee Axxxx was put at Jxxxx’s former desk. When Jxxxx tried to print something from Filemaker, even though I’d set up the default printer (Sharp copier) on her pc, it wouldn’t print.

This is because the print scripts determine where to print based on username, rather than ip. It saw that user Jxxxx was trying to print, and attempted to send to the printer on Jxxxx’s old desk (that printer had not been installed on her current pc). So this creates a problem whenever an employee moves to a different desk. I had to modify every print script in every db to account for that.

It would be more convenient if we could get Filemaker to look at a user’s IP when selecting a printer. I don’t know if this is even possible.  Thank you.

you can but if you'are using dhcp, this is supposed to change.
I use the mac address to do this.
You can also leave it user related and have each user to save their default printer; this assumes you have a user table to save each user setup.
